Here are more scanned pages from The Language of Fashion dictionary. Of most interest, to me atleast, was the illustrated and defined types of heels. In 1938, it looks like what I think of as a “stiletto” was called a Spanish Heel.

Here are the lovely, full colored, illustrated shoe advertisements that make up the last 2 pages of the 1924 Saint Louis Fashion Pageant magazine. What decadence! I almost hated to be at the end, and I hate that this is the last in my series of 1920s fashion scans. The advertisements are for Hamilton-Brown Shoes [...]
7 shoe advertisement scans from 1924. Business to business marketing for shoe manufacturers in St. Louis, and old advertisements for shoes!
These look like advertisements for two more different shoe companies in St. Louis! I kept seeing the name “McKays”, especially “novelty McKays” shoes, and realized from the context that McKays are not a brand… so I did a little research into the history of footwear, and found some interesting bits of shoe making history. Apparently [...]
Here are four scans of shoe advertisements from the 1924 St. Louis Fashion Pageant. Can you believe that there were this many, and more, shoe companies, designers, and shoe factories in Saint Louis? Scanning this fashion industry publication has been an adventure in learning about the history of St. Louis, and how we used to [...]

Such 1920s decadence! The other ad is a very plain one for Finkelstein, and the final advertisement is for “Classy Jean Dresses” [...]
This full color advertisement section of the 1924 St. Louis Fashion Pageant was delightful! There’s a full page ad for International Shoe Company with a lady wearing a green and yellow drop waist dress, a full 2 page spread for Rice-Stix, and finally a full page red and black advertisement for Garrison Wagner Printing Company.
These 1930s catalog scans start with the postage rate chart for 1935, and includes the next 13 pages of shoe advertisements! It’s interesting to see how much they charged for postage in the 30s… prices have gone up, but not as much compared to the price of shoes it seems! “Thrilling Styles, Priced Low”. Practical [...]
Here are the first few pages of the Chicago Mail Order Company’s 1935 Summer Catalogue (it says “Sale Ends August 31, 1935″ on the bottom of the front cover). These first few pages, after the initial 1935 ladies summer fashions, started with womens shoe fashions. Below are the first few pages, announcing their “Greatest Mid-Summer [...]
