1960s Hermits Rest Photos, Native American Indian dance, and random

These are photos from a box of Kodachrome slides labeled “Jan 7 61″. I imagine that she must have taken a road trip across the western USA, stopping to see friends along the way… One of these slides is clearly from “Hermit’s Rest”, which is a structure built in 1914 at the western end of Hermit Road… and it looks like there was some kind of reception or party inside the building. The cake wording reads “ElMonte California, Incorporated November 1912″. Then, there are some random slides of what I’m assuming is the Grand Canyon and Native American Indian pow-wows (probably put on for the tourists).

1945 Wedding Reception or Garden Party

I found these slides, of the same couple as the last, in a box labeled “August 9 – 45″, so presumably from 1945 … it looks like they attended a wedding and snapped some family photos, or maybe the wedding picture is just accidentally mixed in. You can see the hat and dress styles of the time, and it looks like the grandmothers or older aunts got a picture taken in the kitchen, making a cake with Domino sugar. In I wish I knew more about this couple and family.

Grandma and Grandpa KodaChrome Slide Scan

These pictures of an elderly man and woman were presumably taken in 1962… were these the people that the photographer was traveling to see in the west? Did she stop to see Hearst Castle along the way? When I bought the box of old Kodachromes, I was told that it was a female photographer who was in the military, but the person didn’t know anything else. Apparently she died without family.

Old house and car slides from 1962

These old house and old car slides were in a box dated from 1962. See those flames or wingy things on the old car? Obviously, I don’t know much about cars, and would appreciate any hint as to the model of the 60s car in these pictures.

1950s Father and Daughter with Vintage Car

I should really save this slidescan for Father’s Day. It’s seriously, one of my favorites. I don’t know what kind of car it is, but it has 1954 California plates, and the dad looks SO happy as he’s holding his smiling daughter up. This almost looks like an advertisement for something, it’s amazing how good some old family snapshots can turn out!

1960s western house and neighborhood pictures

These are from that box from 1962… looks like a 1960s western suburb with the mountains in the background… maybe in Nevada? I like the one story house, and you can see the rear of an old car in the last picture. These people were obviously not wealthy, and as these pictures are of just middle class houses.

1950s Soldier Picture

This is one of my favorite old soldier photographs that I’ve scanned so far. He’s an airforceman, in uniform, sitting on a brick wall with mountains in the background. I don’t know who he is, or where he’s at… only the rough date of 1954 on the box of slides, and the scan from a Kodachrome.

I’m not sure if these 1950s landscape pictures are all of the same place, or where they were taken at? Looks like old castles, the old West, and old cathedrals…

World War 2 Soldier Picture
