Edwardian Fashion Photos from 1913 and an Ivory Soap Advertisement

Isn’t this Ivory Soap ad a classic? “Yes, it will wash if you use Ivory Soap and a little care… Ivory Soap 99.44% pure”.

Following that advertisement is a page of photographs illustrating and describing fashionable embroidered frocks for the summer season. I made a few scans, to make sure that I got all the wording and details!

SOLD! Vintage 1950s/60s black lace cocktail wiggle hourglass sheath dress – must see!

This is a VERY classic, sexy sleeveless summer 1950s/60s little black cocktail dress made out of polyester or acetate with lace over the skirt. It's totally hour glass, and fastens in the back with hooks and eyes and a metal zipper. Go to your next "MadMen" party in...

1935 BridesMaid Dress

This mesh dress came labeled “Bridesmaid dress from M___’s 1935 wedding”. It’s classic! The dress was blue mesh over a dark blue slip. Not using it in the 1930s wedding recreation was a mistake, but I was afraid the colors were too dark in comparison to the other dresses. Sometimes I make mistakes, and this was still just about 6 months into my adventures in teaching myself vintage styling and photography!

White Edwardian Lace Dress on Andrea

It’s hard to beat that 1930s look, but Andrea fit this lace 1910s dress perfectly (and without a corset!). She looked so proper. I love the horizontal stripes of different lace on this dress, and it buttoned properly up the back. We just shot simple studio pictures to capture the details in this delicate Edwardian lace dress. She would have been right at home reading The Modern Priscilla!

Wills Sainte Claire, Willys Knight, and Stutz auto ads

This entry is part 3 of 17 in the series Automobile Ads Scrapbook

Here are some ads for long-out of business automobile makers: Wills Saint Claire, Willys Knight, Winton, and Stutz. Stutz produced luxury automobiles, and this ad is clearly aimed towards the Edwardian mother. The Winton ad is from 1915. The Willys Knight ads appear to be from the 1920s, the model 70 was produced in 1927. I am not sure when the Whippet was produced. There are several pages of ads for Willys Knight sedans and autos. The Wills Sainte Claire ad features its Canadian Goose logo and this page contains 2 scanned ads.

1920s Studebaker, Rauch & Lang, Pierce-Arrow, and Reo motor car advertisements

This entry is part 4 of 17 in the series Automobile Ads Scrapbook

Here’s various ads for Studebaker cars from the 1920s, the Pierce-Arrow French Brougham, Rauch & Lang worm drive, and Reo 5th and 6th cars and sedans (from 1913).
I can see why the Studebaker is such a classic. The luxurious illustrated advertisement style is distinct. Well bred dogs to go with a well bred car. Stylish women. These early 1920s Studebaker ads are all about luxury.

1958 Hilda Calendar – an Illustrated curvy BBW Cheesecake Pinup

I was doing product photography for a friend, and couldn’t help but take a few extra pictures of this pinup calendar from 1958. “Hilda” is a “generously endowed nymph who casts propriety and modesty aside and comfortably romps her way through the year”. Each month has a drawing of Hilda, and advertising for Munger Linen (“‘Coverage where coverage counts’ When Hilda Rents Uniforms she calls Munger Linen”).

Classic Sexy Patriotic Pinup Pics

This entry is part 9 of 13 in the series My Photography

I got this shiny red white and blue mini dress in Las Vegas a few years ago, and it fit Dezabell perfectly. She carried a matching American flag and the outfit popped.

I posed Cindy on my vintage 1950s “pinup exercise machine”, and we had a ton of fun shooting.

Cindy and Dezabell wanted to do pinup and retro, but with a naughty twist. This is where pinup sometimes blends into boudoir, but those images will never be posted ;-).

Country retro pinup

This entry is part 11 of 13 in the series Vintage Car Workshop

This was pinup model Amy W.’s last photo set at this workshop. She dressed in her own red gingham dress, red platform wedges, borrowed a cowboy hat, and posed in an old truck for a thoroughly classic retro country look.

I minimally post-processed these photos, because they looked so great naturally. What a cute modern retro photo shoot!

Pinup models on a South Pacific Set

This entry is part 7 of 13 in the series Vintage Car Workshop

This cute, humorous, cheesecake pinup photography set features pinup model Amy Mooney (Shooby Duwop) posing with a classic red car against a vintage beach backdrop. It looks like she’s on set of a 1950s beach flick! Later, pinup model Amy W. joins in, and they pretend that they’re lost on the way to the real beach (it does not help that they’re in Missouri, reading the map upside down).

Studio Pictures of the 1904 Worlds Fair Dress

This entry is part 10 of 23 in the series Carondelet Historical Society Project

This was supposedly a French Lace dress worn to the 1904 World’s Fair. It’s hard to see how it fit, or what the original owner’s size was. Was she petite and the lace draped, or was she a larger woman? Black lace makes for classic styling and photos, any way! The lace was still in amazing condition, but it was literally falling apart at the seams. Here are the first studio photos I shot of that dress.
