Little Black Dress – vintage 1950s Ruth Roaman NYC

This sexy vintage little black wiggle dress’s label is NOT to be confused with the famous actress of the time, Ruth Roman! The label on this 1950s sheath reads: “Ruth Roaman Gowns – 555 Madison Ave – Trademark for the Fashionwise”

This is a well made vintage 1950s sheath dress made of a double layer of fine crepe over satin that you can barely tell is 2 layers. Metal zipper up back with hook & eye. It was sold on Madison Avenue, probably many years before the 32 storey skyscraper was bought by the Coates Brothers (researching this dress I got on a LONG side-trail of trying to figure out what businesses were at 555 Madison Avenue in the 1950s, and came up with only this article from 1963 about the Coates Brothers buying the building from shipping magnate Manuel Kulukundis).

Measures (flat):
42″ long
16″ bust (32″)
12″ waist (24″)
16″ hips (32″)

Note on condition: A few tiny holes in front at bottom and back at bottom on crepe – could easily be hemmed shorter above them. Minor pulling on one of the front seams- not noticeable unless closely looking.
Some dust found when packing it – you will want to hand wash in cold water.

Large vintage 1950s sheath dress with original belt

This amazing vintage 1950s pinup dress is made from an iridescent blue/purple brocade. Note the cute little kicker in the rear. It’s lovely for work or a night out, the mannequin does this XL vintage sheath dress no justice.

There is some slight seam stretching as pictured in the rear but otherwise in excellent vintage condition. Zips up the side with a metal zipper.

Approximate modern size 22 but please go by measurements.
