More about this Item
Some dresses are pretty; this dress is a whole mood. Originally a traditional white wedding gown from the mid-century, this piece has been transformed into a Gothic masterpiece.
The Fabric & Color: The outer layer is crisp, rustling Vintage Silk Taffeta that has been hand-dyed using Rit Dye in “Wine,” resulting in a variegated, deep raspberry-red hue that photographs beautifully in natural light.
Structure: The skirt is fully lined with a heavy, stiff fabric (likely buckram or heavy interfacing) which gives it immense volume even without a hoop skirt. The bodice is unlined silk.
The Closure (Best of Both Worlds): A clever modification for photographers! The original metal back zipper is still attached and functional. However, fabric loops were professionally sewn along the zipper line to allow for a ribbon corset/lace-up closure.
Wear it laced: Allows for size flexibility in the ribcage.
Restore it: A seamstress could remove the loops to return it to a zipper-only closure.
Condition – The “Haunted” Aesthetic: This dress has lived a glamorous life on outdoor photoshoots and is sold AS-IS as a Costume/Prop Piece.
Silk Shattering: As is common with silk of this era, the fabric is “shattering” (splitting/shredding), particularly at stress points like the underarms and neckline.
Wear & Dirt: There is soil/dirt on the hem and train from outdoor use. There are holes in the skirt (one notably large one pictured) that could be mended or hidden in the folds.
Modifications: The bust has been pinned/tucked for styling (visible in video); these may need to be adjusted or resewn by the new owner.
Measurements:
Bust: approx. 32 inches (Corset lacing allows for slight adjustment)
Waist: 24 inches (Fixed seam – measure carefully!)
Front Length Approximately: 52 inches
Back Length (Train): ~75 inches
Weight: Approx 3 lbs (Heavy!)
Styling Tip: I photographed this over a large crinoline, but the skirt is wide enough to accommodate a 6-hoop skirt for maximum “Antebellum Vampire” drama. Includes original train loop and heavy-duty hanger straps.
