This late 1940s/early 1950s Vomac dress features a striking abstract blue and black jacquard print and an original, hand-sewn rhinestone crescent brooch. Meet the “Belgian Beauty Project.” This is a piece that has lived a very full life and is looking for a guardian who appreciates historical construction or needs a stunning textile for a new creation.

Sourced from “Vomac” in Oostkamp, Belgium, this dress dates back to the late 1940s or very early 1950s. The silhouette is classic for the era—a bit boxy but elegant, fastened on the side with a row of original metal snaps rather than a modern zipper. The fabric is the real star here: a textural jacquard weave in a moody, abstract pattern that looks almost like a stylized animal print or storm clouds in deep navy blue and black.

The Highlights:

  • The Sparkle: A gorgeous, original rhinestone crescent brooch is sewn securely onto the gathered asymmetrical neckline. All stones appear present and still catch the light beautifully.

  • The Construction: Beautiful ruching at the shoulder and a side-snap closure that speaks to its vintage age.

  • The Size: A rare, generous vintage size that fits closer to a modern Large.

The Reality (Condition Notes): This dress is being sold AS-IS for restoration or study. She has been well-loved and shows it.

  • Lining: The inner lining is “shattered” (shredded) throughout the bodice and skirt. It is bulky and crumbling; we recommend the buyer carefully cut this lining out and wear the dress with a separate modern slip.

  • Underarms: There is previous mending and visible thinning/shredding at the underarm seams.

  • Color Shift: There is purplish discoloration in areas (likely fume fading or reaction to light/storage) on the blue sections.

  • Seams: The back kick pleat shows stress and visible stitching/mending.

Despite her flaws, the textile is mesmerizing and the hardware/jewelry element alone makes her a worthy addition to a collection. She is a piece of history waiting for the right hands.
