A vintage dress that actually understands having a bust! This handmade 1960s shirt dress features a moody purple and grey floral print, wood-effect buttons, and a brilliant “modesty snap” at the bust to prevent gapping. A fantastic, unlined Plus Size vintage piece perfect for layering.

Measurements (Taken Flat):

  • Bust: 21″ (Doubles to 42″)

  • Waist: 19.5″ (Doubles to 39″)

  • Hips: ~23″ (Doubles to 46″ – best for 46″ or smaller for ease)

  • Length: 39″

  • Fit: Fits like a modern Large to XL (Size 12-14).

More about this Item

Whoever sewed this dress knew exactly what they were doing. Dating to the 1960s or very early 70s, this shirt dress features a stylized floral print in shades of lavender, violet, and grey against a black background. The fabric is a lightweight, slightly shiny synthetic with a crisp texture that holds its shape well.

The silhouette is a classic A-line shift with 3/4 length sleeves and a sharp, retro collar. But the real genius is in the details. It features a full button-down front with faux-wood buttons, and right at the bust line—where shirt dresses notoriously pop open—there is a discreet, original metal snap hidden inside the placket to keep you secure!

This piece is unlined with pinked interior seams, making it breezy enough for spring or easy to layer over a slip for winter. It has thread belt loops, so you can add your own black patent leather belt to cinch the waist.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition.

  • Structure: No holes or tears found. Seams are strong.

  • Buttons: All original buttons intact. Note: One button has a small chip/nick on the edge (see close-up photo), but it is fully functional.

  • Missing: Original belt is missing (thread loops remain).

  • Bust (Pit to Pit): 21 inches flat -> 42 inches around

  • Waist: 19.5 inches flat -> 39 inches around

  • Hips: Approx. 23 inches flat -> 46 inches around (Leaving room for movement!)
