Vintage 60s Tapestry Sheath Dress – Heavyweight Paisley Upholstery Fabric – Mod Carpet Bag Style
Is it a dress? Is it a sofa? It’s the best of both worlds. This late 1960s tapestry sheath is the definition of “upholstery chic,” featuring a heavyweight woven wool-blend fabric that holds its shape like armor.
Fully lined and featuring a killer paisley print in moss greens and deep reds, this is a cold-weather statement piece that demands tall boots and an attitude.

More about this Item
I am absolutely obsessed with the “Grandma’s Sofa” aesthetic, and I mean that as the highest compliment. This dress comes straight from the late 1960s, a time when fashion decided that if a fabric was good enough for the living room drapes, it was good enough for the discotheque.
The fabric is a true tapestry weave—thick, textured, and substantial. If you run your hand over it, you can feel the individual threads of the paisley swirls. It features a rich palette of mossy greens, brick reds, and creams. The silhouette is a classic structured sheath: three-quarter sleeves, a modest neckline, and a fitted waist accented by a cute little self-fabric bow that snaps over the zipper.
Speaking of the zipper, it’s a sturdy metal Talon up the back (the gold standard of vintage closures). The dress is fully lined in a cream acetate, which is crucial because, let’s be real, this woolly tapestry fabric would be itchy without it.
Condition Report:
This piece is in great vintage condition with a ton of life left. The exterior fabric looks vibrant. I did notice two small things:
The lining has come unstitched from the zipper tape for about 2-3 inches on the back. This is a super common vintage ailment and doesn’t affect how the dress wears (and is an easy invisible stitch fix if you’re handy with a needle).
There is very faint, subjective wear near the underarm, but honestly? You have to have your nose in the fabric to see it. There are no holes or stains.
It’s heavy, it’s warm, and it’s distinct. You won’t walk into a party and see anyone else wearing this.
