More about this Item
This isn’t just a jacket; it’s armor. Sourced from the estate of a renowned scientist, this piece represents the intersection of her heritage and her status as a formidable professional in the 1980s and 90s.
The fabric is a heavyweight, luxurious brocade in shades of antique gold, bronze, and copper. The pattern is the traditional “Imperial Dragon,” featuring dragons swirling among stylized clouds—a symbol of supreme power and good luck.
The silhouette is distinct to its era: a longer, tunic-length cut (hitting below the hip) with sewn-in shoulder pads that provide a sharp, authoritative shape. It features a Mandarin collar and a full row of intricate knotted frog button closures. Fully lined.
Condition: Excellent Vintage Condition. The metallic brocade is vibrant with no snagging. The lining is clean. Note: The left sleeve cuff has a storage crease (it is currently flipped up/bent) from being stored folded for decades. This should relax with a professional steaming or wear, but is sold as-found to preserve the fabric’s integrity.
Sizing & Fit: No size tag. Fits like a modern Small to Slim Medium (US 4-6).
Measurements (taken flat):
Length, shoulder to hem: approx 27.5 in
Shoulders: approx 16
Bust: approx 18 in across (36 in around)
Waist: approx 17 in across (34 in around)
Hips: approx 20 in across (40 in around)
Sleeve length: approx 22 in from shoulder”
Style Notes: Because of the longer length, this looks incredible worn as a coat over slim-fitting black trousers or leather leggings. It is a fantastic piece for Lunar New Year or a gallery opening.
